Michigan Tech and the Family Weekend staff welcome you to campus. Your registration packet, which includes a schedule of events, maps, and tickets, is available in the lobby of the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts.
Morning Exercise, 8:30 -10:30 AM
Student Development Complex (SDC)
Start your morning off right by bringing the whole family up to the SDC for a morning workout! With several opportunities to choose from, each person in the family can find something they like. Please be sure to bring your workout attire, tennis shoes, swimsuits, or racquets so that you are ready to play. Please see the pool and tennis hours on the brochure.

*Please note that although there is no cost associated with these classes, pre-registration is required due to limited class size.
Quincy Mine Tours, 9:45 AM - 4:45 PM
Quincy Mine, Hwy US 41, Hancock
Visit the Quincy Mine National Historic Landmark and see firsthand the equipment and workings of this storied mine. The Quincy Mine offers you a look at a steam hoist that carried miners and mining cars more than nine thousand feet into the earth.
Mont Ripley Chair Lift Color Tour, 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Mont Ripley Ski Hill
Enjoy the view and colors from Michigan Tech’s ski hill. Tickets can be purchased at the ski hill; cash or checks accepted. This event is a fundraiser for the Mont Ripley Ski Patrol.
Keweenaw Brunch,10:30 AM -1:00 PM
Wadsworth Hall, McNair Hall, and Douglass Houghton Hall Dining Halls
Start your weekend off with a delicious brunch complete with local Copper Country flavor! The menu will include Pannukakku (Finnish pancakes), Copper Island quiche, Cornish pasties, and more.
Keweenaw Star Color Tour,10:30 AM - Board, 11:00 AM - Depart Dee Stadium, East Lakeshore Drive, Houghton
Relax and enjoy a two-and-a-half hour tour on Potage Lake aboard the Keweenaw Star. It’s a chance to take in the exciting views of wildlife and beautiful fall colors that surround Michigan Tech.
Tree Walk, 12:30 -1:30 PM
Wadsworth Hall, Lobby
Join us for a nature walk through campus guided by students and a faculty member from the Forest Resources and Environmental Science Learning Community. Observe the local fall colors and learn about trees while you walk.
A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum & Junior Mineralogist Activities, 1:00 -3:00 PM, Electrical Energy Resource Center (EERC), Fifth Floor
Discover one of the finest collections of precious crystals and minerals in the nation. For younger siblings, there willl be junior mineralogist activities including a copper treasure hunt. Admission and activities are free, but donations are greatly appreciated.
Glow Bowling 2:00 -5:00 PM
Memorial Union Building, Bowling Alley, Ground Floor
Come check out Michigan Tech’s own bowling alley, located right on campus inside the MUB. Bowling is free, but because of limited lane space, pre-registration is required.
Troupe Family Show, 3:00 - 4:00 PM
McArdle Theatre, Walker Arts and Humanities Center
The Troupe, Michigan Tech’s award-winning improv comedy group, performs wacky scenes, games, and skits. Admission is free for MTU students with ID, K-12 students, and pre-school children. Greek House Tours, 3:30 -5:30 PM
Presented by the Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils
Fraternities and sororities open their historic homes to Family Weekend visitors. Several of the homes are located along College Avenue and date back to the Copper Boom, while others are located in the outlying communities of Hancock and Chassell.
Keweenaw Star Charity Dinner Cruise, 5:30 PM - Board, 6:00 PM - Depart
Presented by Alphi Phi Omega; Dee Stadium, East Lakeshore Drive, Houghton
This is a great opportunity to join us on a relaxing two-and-a-half hour dinner cruise aboard the Keweenaw Star. You’ll see Portage Lake in all its autumn glory and a beautiful sunset. This cruise is a charity to benefit the Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home for Abused Women.

The Alan Parsons Live Project with the Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra, 7:30 PM, Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts, Performance Hall
The world-renowned Alan Parsons Live Project returns to Michigan Tech for two not-to-be-missed concerts with the Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra, featuring musical arrangements by Alan Parsons and KSO music director Milton Olsson, with the APLP sound and light show.
Film Board Movie, Ratatouille

Relax and enjoy a movie, on a theater screen larger than any other available in Houghton or Hancock, courtesy of the Michigan Tech Film Board. Tickets are available at the door for $2 for Tech students and their guests. Come to this flick to see a hilarious and exciting rat race that turns the culinary world of Paris upside down as Remy the rat pursues his passion for cooking!
